The original glazed entrance canopies had reached the end of their service life.
Rather than replacing the failed system like-for-like, the project retains and refurbishes the existing steel framework where appropriate and introduces a lighter, durable Danpal Everbright polycarbonate roofing system.
Understanding why the original system failed.
Investigation identified widespread laminated-glass delamination, deterioration of glazing components, corrosion at steel interfaces, failed waterproofing and localised damage around critical connections.
The assessment established which parts of the existing structural framework could be retained and where complete renewal was required.

Rather than replacing the failed glazing like-for-like, the project introduces vibrant blue Danpal Everbright polycarbonate panels.
The translucent system captures and filters Perth's sky, improves durability and weather protection, and gives the library entrance a refreshed civic presence.
New proprietary locking bars, flashings, perimeter seals, coastal-grade fixings and improved drainage interfaces were coordinated to address the original failure points and create a more maintainable long-term solution.
